For those of you who are new to us at Recycled Ruffs, we are hound people. Bloodhound people to be exact! My husband and I had looked for a hound during our dating days and I was not quite the fan of the "slobbery, lazy, stinky" dogs but my husband always wanted one. Why I'm not sure, he says he wasn't sure either except for the "lazy" part! Well, three years into dating I stumbled upon a craigslist posting "Purebred bloodhound puppy" That was the exact same thing I had been slowly watching for. Of course, where we're located in CA there are only 2 other bloodhounds I know of. One that lives out by my grandmas (whom I just discovered the other day actually) and Moonshine, the police SAR dog.
I emailed the owner of the listing and BAM. Next day he was ours! Our beautiful Sir Remington the Hound. Remi, for short. Remi was the highlight of our outings and he was even featured in a book! About 2 years later heartbreak happened and Remi went to rainbows bridge. Its been a year since and I've sorta looked but haven't really committed to anything.
Of course I've been turned into an absolute bloodhound person too! Who doesn't love those wrinkles?!
Then I found Red. A hound back in North Carolina whom we tried and tried to save, but time and Red were working against us. I think I became one of the resident "Message this girl if you need a hound saved" because after Red I was sent several messages regarding different hounds across the states. However, This guy stood out. This guy here is Tank. A beautiful, loving, (not so)slobbery hound! He is 10 months old and already giving us good laughs and our other ruffs someone to play with! He's definitely shy right now (I would be too after having to move families after 10 months) but I just know he's going to warm up wonderfully!
We are starting training today! So far his favorite trick is 'Sit'. But isn't that most ruffs? ;) I'll be working with him and Blitz (another ruff staff member) for basic training and then hopefully this cutie will be willing to learn some SAR work!
We are having an Easter party next weekend where he'll get to meet the entire family, should be a fun day for him!!
hugs, luffs, and ruffs ~ Cesilie
